With Sun Roofing, Brad Tucker presents an installation of new paintings and objects alongside a printed photo essay of sources found within the retail/commercial landscape of Lakeway, Texas, where the artist resides. Presented in a straightforward, documentary mode, photos of local buildings and signage shed their matter of fact content when considered through their association with painting. Within this interpretive combination of painting, photography, and commercial signage, Tucker strips everyday language of its utilitarian function and rediscovers it as a site of poetic possibility. The formal continuity of the photo essay is interrupted by a brief and humorous narrative highlighting a public intervention made by the artist and his collaborator (and director of Dirty Dark Place), Daedelus Hoffman.
